The Brumbies take on the Chiefs in Canberra from 5.40pm in their round 11 Super Rugby clash.

Hello from Canberra Stadium where we’re bringing Anzac Day rugby to you wherever you may be! Hope your day’s going well after an early start at the Dawn Service where the highlight for me was young Liam’s reading of In Flanders Fields this morning. But I digress. Today the ACT Brumbies will take on the Waikato Chiefs in a grand-final rematch on this historic day.

So strap a poppy to your lapel and buckle up for what should be a cracking Super Rugby encounter…really looking forward to the pre-game ceremonies, just a shame SANZAR have kiboshed the national anthems…

Let’s take a look at who’ll be playing…

First up the home team.

BRUMBIES: Jesse Mogg, Joe Tomane, Tevita Kuridrani, Christian Lealiifano, Robbie Coleman, Matt Toomua, Nic White, Ben Mowen (c), Jarrad Butler, Jordan Smiler, Sam Carter, Scott Fardy, Ben Alexander, Stephen Moore, Scott Sio. Reserves: Siliva Siliva, Ruan Smith, JP Smith, Jack Whetton, Tom McVerry, Michael Dowsett, Andrew Smith, Pat McCabe.

And from NZ…

CHIEFS: Tom Marshall, Tim Nanai-Williams, Andrew Horrell, Bundee Aki, Asaeli Tikoirotuma, Gareth Anscombe, Augustine Pulu, Liam Messam, Sam Cane, Nick Crosswell, Brodie Retallick, Ross Filipo, Ben Tameifuna, Mahonri Schwalger, Pauliasi Manu. Reserves: Nathan Harris, Jamie Mackintosh, Josh Hohneck, Matt Symons, Tevita Koloamatangi, Brad Weber, Dwayne Sweeney, James Lowe.

Brumbies legend George Smith is in the crowd tonight, as is Australia’s fastest ever woman Mel Breen, and we’re tracking towards a crowd of about 16,000. Anzac ceremonies to begin shortly…

The two teams are all lined up and about to honour the memory of the brave men and women who gave their lives in the line of duty. There’s just something special about the Last Post! Why wouldnt SANZAR let the Brumbies have an annual Anzac clash…

And we’re away! You can hear the Aussie national anthem going over in the party corner…. #copthatsanzar

4 minutes: For some reason there’s no game clock on the scoreboard so we’ll just muddle along from here. Christian Lealiifano returning to the starting line-up for the first time since ankle surgery gets an early opportunity to get the Brumbies on the board, but pulls the penalty shot badly and it remains 0-0.

5: There’s the now mandatory early kick out on the full by the Brumbies…

Change on the bench for the Brumbies – Siliva Siliva injured his knee during the warm up and Josh Mann-Rea has come in as the back-up hooker…

Really sloppy start here from the Brumbies as they knock on. Perhaps a few tired eyes after an early wake up and visit to the Dawn Service?

14: This game doesn’t seem to be going anywhere at the moment. We got a brief bit of excitement with Robbie Coleman putting in two little chip kicks back-to-back down the left wing before the Chiefs countered with a Liam Messam line break that left the ball back where we started. Scott Fardy not happy about getting tripped while trying to tackle Messam, “you weren’t even looking!” he exclaimed to the ref…

17: Right well, Lealiifano now has another chance to score his points as a starter this season. He lines up from just 15m straight in front…and he knocks it over the dot! Brumbies fans breath a collective sigh of relief, perhaps wondering he was going to develop a case of the Ian Baker-Finches and be forced to give the game away. Most people would be happy with one British Open though, so it could be worse. 3-all.

20: And almost as if to keep the status quo in this very uninspiring start, Anscombe misses a penalty shot from directly in front and we stay at 3-all. Crowd starting to get frustrated as well. Probably the most interesting thing so far in this game has been the chat between the ref and the players, so if youre at the ground, grab some sports ears and maybe adjourn to the bar…

9: Now Gareth Anscombe has the chance to do what Lealiifano couldn’t it – he slots his penalty conversion from about 20m out on a slight angle. Chiefs 3-0.
